Texas A&M University-Kingsville is a public university in Kingsville, which is a city in the US state of Texas, serving as the county seat of Kleberg County, with a population of more than 25 500, estimated during the 2000 census. Kingsville is the principal city of the Kingsville Micropolitan Statistical Area, part of the larger Corpus Christi-Kingsville Combined Statistical Area.
TAMU-Kingsville was established in 1925 and it is the oldest continuously operating public institution of higher learning in South Texas. It was chartered as the South Texas Normal School in 1917 and adopted its current name in 1993. It offers its students, who number approximately 6 500, 56 undergraduate degree programs, 61 master's programs and six doctoral degrees, through several colleges, including Arts and Sciences, Business Administration and Engineering and Graduate Studies.
TAMU-K's sports teams are formally known as the Javelinas and informally, Hoggies, and they compete NCAA Division II, in the Lone Star Conference. Their distinctive colors are blue and gold and their mascot is Porky the Javelina.
